Book Review: Thriving as an Adoptive Family

“The paradox of parenting by adoption is now your story.  At once, it’s been both exhausting and exhilarating.  It’s been joyous and heartbreaking.  You’ve given everything you’ve had to give, yet your cup is now overflowing with much more than you knew you had to offer.  And it’s only just begun.” –David & Renee Sanford in Thriving as an Adoptive Family: Real-Life Solutions to common Challenges.

  1. I’m currently reading this (I’m about halfway through it). I think the compilation of writers for this book have done a really good job presenting the various issues adoptive parents and adoptees face. It should be seen as a springboard. Entire books could be written about each chapter! One thing that is especially helpful are the real life testimonies at the end of every chapter.

Some other favorite adoption books I’ve read are:
Keys to Parenting an Adopted Child– http://nineyearpregnancy.wordpress.com/2012/08/03/year-for-year/
Our Own: Adopting and Parenting the Older Child– http://delanasworld.wordpress.com/2012/01/19/start-as-you-mean-to-go/
Parenting Your Internationally Adopted Chid — http://delanasworld.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/parenting-your-adopted-child/

    • Thank you so much for your comments Delana! It’s good to hear it from a few different people I think. And I love the suggestion of the extra books you suggested too. I’ve heard both are popular books. Do I understand that you wrote the last one? If so, I’d love to talk with you more about your book!

  2. You are most welcome! No, I did not write that book. The books I have written are:
Nine Year Pregnancy: Waiting on God–Our Adoption Journey

    • Delana, contact me by email if you want to get on board with our new idea of offering a signed copy of a book about adoption or family to our readers! Good publicity for you and helps us with traffic. Same to any author out there who writes about that.

To everyone: Our program will be starting as soon as we get our first book in (some are on the way now!) so check here for your chance to win one soon!
